If you want to donate to a specific cause, such as Romeo's surgery, please let us know. Right now feed and hay are priority and until someone is willing to sponsor Romeo, he will be put off until we can afford his surgery. This is the same for the water lines that need installed, the gravel we need, etc. Right now the feed and hay is priority.

Where your donation goes.....

We have had one fundraiser at Orschelns this year where we collected $80 for operating expenses (which went to feed) and a special donation of Sheep Shears (Thank you Cindy!). We have also had two yard sales. The first one was rained out and we only had one day of sales. During that day we raised $236 to go towards operating expenses (which we put towards Star's vet and farrier bills). The second yard sale we had did not do a well, mostly because of heat. We raised $86.50 for operating expenses (which went to feed).

We are currently feeding 72 lbs of feed to the rescue horses a day (Average of 3 lb per horse 2 x a day) That is 2160 lbs a month At $7.79 for a 50 lb bag, that comes to $336 a month. That does not include the two boarders or our own two. Some are on regular 12% feed and some are on senior feeds. They are getting 20 lbs a day collectively. That is 600 lbs a month at a price of $168.00. I think all the Orschelns employees can attest to the fact that we are there almost daily picking up feed. We use an average of 2200 bales of hay a year for the rescues. That is 183 bales per month at $2.50 a bale, that is $457.50 a month. We currently have two horses on "Body Builder" at $81.20 a month after shipping. We also have farrier and vet bills which average $200 a month total. That is $1242.70 a month without counting the rabbits, pig, sheep we are rehabbing, elderly goats, two dogs and several feral cats that can not be adopted.

We have a water bill of $75 a month that is not included. This does not include any of the electric that is used at the barn or the phone that is kept for the rescue (as we have lives too and don't want our home number to be the main contact number). Our expenses and our animals expenses are keep separate. Year to date (8/9/2010), we have received a total of $3096.62 in donations. That is less than 3 months of hay and feed and does not include any other type of operating expense.

If you come into our home you will see that the animals come first. Our washing machine is broken, the couch is in pieces (literally), the refrigerator has a broken door, up until 8/9/2010, we did not even have working AC in the house this year. The garage door hasn't shut in a year (that probably drives the neighbors crazy). The gravel drive we had leading to the pastures has washed away and we can not afford to add more gravel. Justin's truck needed tires desperately and we had to keep putting it off until the front tire exploded the other day (that brought all the neighbors out in full force). Your donations go to the animals at 100%. Our money goes to the animals at 75%.

WE pay all the electric, water and other land expenses and do not ever charge those expenses to the rescue. WE pay for 90% of the support for these animals every year. Our tax records are accessible by the public. If you don't want to research them, please give us a call. We actually keep them in a binder for public viewing and they are displayed at any event we are set up at. All board members names, addresses, and credentials are also displayed and available to the public. We also have our Secretary of State credentials, our State Wildlife Rehab permit, State non-profit certificate, IRS 501(c)3 certificate, and current certificate of exsistence on public display when we set up. We are open our home to these animals and to the public to view them.
