Spoiled Acres Rescue

How to Build a Rescue. Our photo story.....

First you have to buy land and start clearing it....

Then you need to fix up an old barn....

Then you need to adopt some babies so that you can love them and learn....

Then you are ready to take in some big guys....

Then Santa Horse needs to come visit you and bring you presents....

Your husband has to find a nice barn to order. Of course he didn't have to have it delivered in 6 inches of snow.....

As you wait for the snow to melt, you need to get one of the worse ice storms ever!

Once the ice and snow melt, you can see how silly your new barn looks in the side yard right out by the road...

That is when you have to call the big guys....

Then your wonderful contractor can decide the best place to put the barn....

A little bit of clean up

And you would never know that you once had grass....

Better make a road to the barn..so lets get the gravel delivered....in the rain

That is when you find out that you need a whole new driveway since yours is less than 1 inch thick...

You need some farm vehicles to help get the work done.

On to the nursery. After much money and hard labor, you now have a nursery and are ready for babies

Here comes the trouble makers..........

Summer at last....

We had a board member that could not grasp the concept of hay feeding. We ended up with hay over load in all of the pastures.....

When there are pile of hay the horses are walking in, you know there will be problems later. We now have spots like these all over the pasture. This is nothing but hay.

Notice how "wet" the ground is there....we have been under a draught for a while now. Temps have been in the 90-100's every day. There is no way that should still be wet! We have started raking and cleaning. We are down to.....

It is getting smaller! It is breaking our backs, but we are getting there.

After the winter damage, you realize that your path has been dug up by the quad and the mule

You also realize that you need to finish your road to make next year easier

First you need dirt to fill in the ruts...

Much better now you get a friend to delivery some gravel...watch out for that tree!

Don't catch that branch......

Well atleast we have a pile of gravel to work with....hey don't just sit there!

I told the family they had to get to work and get the road finished....

When the family goes in to take a break, you get the quad with the blade out and finish the road...

After several loads of gravel and dirt and quite a little bit of money, you have..........

Spoiled Acres is becoming the popular hang out....

We think they heard that there is free food and water for all animals here.

One day soon, we will have pictures of their little deer and raccoon friends. Right now they seem to be camera shy.

We didn't mention the going broke filing paperwork with all of the right agencies. We didn't realize it costs so much to get registered as non-profit. Why do you have to pay just to tell everyone that you want to be broke?

Watch for more in this "How to build a Rescue" story. We still have to make the driveway and put up the fence!
